when priceless comes at no cost

"i'll go take another round of chicken wings. you guys want some?"

we are in the middle of our meal, and as usual, it's an all you can eat korean barbecue.
it has been some time since three of us sit down and had dinner together, and we all  know saying "nah, i'm busy" would be counted as an insult when korean barbecue listed in the menu.

"nah, thanks. i'm good."

so i went down to the cooked food counter, and took few chicken wings and a bowl of ginseng chicken soup. a guy in white passed by (his name is kim. don't ask me why, his forehead just told me so. that guy has typical "kim" face), and by that time we knew this guy is the owner of this restaurant. he didn't wear any black t-shirt like other waiters, but a neat white long sleeve shirt. he walk around serving customers, and even he helped them taking group pictures.

in the cooked food counter, he was around when i took a bowl of soup.
people come and go taking some dishes, then only two of us left.

he took few steps backward.
he crossed his hand behind.
slowly, he looked at the food counter from the very left to the top right.
he noticed they are halfway finished,.
he smiled.

the kind of smile when your mom gave you when she sees you eating your favourite food.
the kind of smile when you cooked something good, and people eating them like they are starving.
the kind of smile when you feel all your hard work are paid off.

i went back to my seat, and i got my lesson for the day:

what an irony.
lots of luxury brands claimed their products are priceless, yet there are people who can afford.
on the other hand, is there any price tag in the expression i saw just now?

simply priceless.
